Born and raised in the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex, Quinton Bodnár Smith first began playing the oboe in the public school system of the Lewisville Independent School District, graduating from Edward S. Marcus High School in 2016. In college Bodnár Smith went on to study Oboe Performance with Dr. Andrew Parker at the University of Texas at Austin, in the Butler School of Music. Most notable of his undergraduate studies was performing in the UT Bach Cantata Project and studying abroad for a summer in Vienna, Austria. After graduating in the BSOM Class of 2020, Bodnár Smith would continue on to his graduate studies at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music as a student of Russ de Luna, Solo English Horn of the San Francisco Symphony. Living and learning in the Bay Area afforded Bodnár Smith many opportunities such as playing in Ambrose Akinmusire’s 2022 SFJazz set and playing with the San Francisco Symphony.
Quinton is currently a member of The Orchestra Now (TŌN), a graduate training orchestra located at Bard College about 90 miles north of NYC. In addition to audition preparation and lessons, TŌN performs regularly in the city, with appearances in venues such as Jazz at Lincoln Center, free concerts at Symphony Space, the Met Museum, and Carnegie Hall. Highlights from his first year in the program include recording the Carnegie Hall cycle, a collection of works by composers displaced by the Holocaust, and getting to play oboe d’amore for the very first time ever for Images by Debussy at a Met Museum presentation on Debussy and Matisse.

INQUIRIES/CONTACT

To inquire about a trial lesson, reedmaking help, or if you happen to be looking for an oboe player, please feel free to email me at qb3404@bard.edu , and I will get back to you as soon as possible. Quinton is currently based in Kingston, NY.

Quinton prides himself in having the opportunity to learn from many of the great oboe players of our time, infusing tried-and-true knowledge with his own ideas about music. Though most of his experience pertains to orchestral playing, having played besides his own mentors and educators, Quinton has experience preparing 5 recitals, countless chamber music performances, and performances with chamber orchestra and choir. It is our role as educators and mentors to appreciate everyone's unique experiences as artists and people to help as best we can.
